Fresh the Movie

Makes you wonder about the food you eat.  Enough reasons in this movie for me to want to raise all my own food.

Riley Graduates

Rebecca's boyfriend Riley graduated on Friday.  They looked very cute together.  Supper was great and the ceremony was well done.  We got to sit with Riley's family and had a great time visiting with them.

Riley left Saturday morning at 6:30 for Borden, Ontario. He's gone 10 weeks doing his basic training for the navy.  It's going to be really quiet here this summer with him gone!

Yorkton Farmers Market

I had a good day yesterday at the Yorkton Farmers Market.  All my veggies and eggs sold as soon as I got there. I had wanted to take the picture with my table full but that didn't happen.

The market's website is now up and running!  It gives everyone a chance to meet the other vendors and get market information.  It's still in the beginning stages and we have some tweaking to do.  Check it out at yorktonfarmersmarket.ca

Day 2 of Summer

Lyle was able to pick me about 40 lbs of rhubarb yesterday, so last night we all spent washing and cutting rhubarb.  The freezer is filling up, but I'll be making jam soon!

The tomatoes in the greenhouse are finally blooming!  They are so late this year but I think we've only had 3 sunny days this last month, so it's no wonder.

Tomatoes still waiting to be transplanted outside.  Another week and I hope to have everything planted out.

Rain. Again.

I spent the past weekend doing the concession at a jackpot barrel racing competition.  It was held at the Twin valley rodeo grounds outside Esterhazy.  The weather was good although the grounds were very wet. The riding club has been upgrading the facilities there and they now have a nice usable concession stand.  The event was in memory of Shannon Robinson who passed away recently from ovarian cancer.  The proceeds went to ovarian cancer research.

It rained again Sunday night and most of Monday.  We had a severe thunder storm about midnight and the power went out.  They didn't get it back on until about noon Monday.  Sunday night I transplanted 98 sage plants to the garden.  This is what they looked like after another inch of rain. The poor things are flat and drowned in puddles of water that will not soak in.

I took this picture last week of the guard dogs.  It looked so funny and reminded me of that cartoon with the sheep dogs Ralph and Sam.  Scully is watching west and Bandit is watching north.

This is NOT too funny when three dogs show up in the morning looking like this.

And finally, a word of advice. NEVER, never, ever accidentally lock your billy goat buckling in your vehicle overnight.  You can guess what my suburban looked like yesterday morning. I will not be posting any pictures.   Grrr

Garden Help

Yesterday I mudded in 120 roma tomatoes, 108 thyme and 60 basil plants. It was a good day for it, cloudy and cool.  As it turned out, it rained last night again, so they should be happy.

Reggie spent the afternoon with me in the garden.  He wandered around eating dirt and exploring.  When he got tired he went into the greenhouse and slept for a few hours.

Reggie got scared with a loud noise and went to hide behind a tomato plant.

Tired dogs..... you'll notice that the black one has horns.  Yes, Bailey the new buckling thinks he's a dog.  He's afraid of his new girlfriends, and prefers the dogs.

Sydney fell off a chair 2 days ago and the doctor put a cast on. He couldn't see the break on the x-ray but because Syd was in so much pain he casted it anyways.  They await a report from radiologist on her elbow.  She's enjoying some coloring time with Grandpa.

Finally........  Drum roll...........  The red three ton has a new motor.  It's been paying rent in the shop for the last 2 years. It's getting it's rad hooked up and will be out the door in a few days.

New Kids

Back milking goats again.  Mabel (gray and white) and Irene (a.k.a. unigoat because she lost a horn) have both kidded and I'm stealing milk.  Reggie the fawn is happy to be getting fresh milk and I can now start freezing it for soap and lambing next year.

Rain Again

I don't know if we're going to get the rest of the garden in this spring.  Once again we have rain, I shouldn't be surprised - It's been three days since our last downpour.  The ground is so wet that it will not soak in anymore.

And if by chance I do get some tomato plants put in the ground, someone (think little goat ) comes along and samples.

The greenhouse is full of plants waiting to go out to the garden.  Not sure when this will happen.
